Feeling a lot more chilled out today having done my first ever live lecture last night. Lichfield CC was an amazing group of people, so welcoming and supportive. The feedback at the break and at the end was really heartwarming - so glad I braved it. and a big thank you to Chris Evans who went with me for moral support. He had a good night talking to different people there too. |

A new photography project began today. The Cinema in Sutton Coldfield has been closed and boarded up for over 3 years. Empire quit the site and it has now been purchased by a new company. I managed to get in contact with the new owner, James, and we exchanged some emails about how I could help document the changes for them and the local community. We arranged a site visit which took place this morning. After a brief refresher tour of the 4 screens I was allowed to mooch around and shoot what I wanted to. I even managed to sneak behind the material of the main screen and see behind-the-scenes.
James found me afterwards and gave me a guided tour up to the main projection room and to see the vintage machinery they have as well...lots of little store rooms and areas to explore. The plans for the screens and seating sounds great. The false ceilings are being removed in the main foyer to allow the light to come in through the original art deco full size windows (currently panelled over inside with shelving in front) making it spacious. The main screen foyer is being extended and is going to have a bar and some seating added. Disabled access to the ground floor screens will be improved and it sounds like some on site disabled parking will be provided too. The images from this morning will be handed over to James for his use and archives, some will be shared on Future of Cinema in Sutton Coldfield (FoCiS) facebook page and added to my website. Hopefully, Phase 1 - stripping out what has to go, will begin at the end of next week. This will take around 6 weeks, then I will return to photograph that. Had a little play with some toy photography the other night at SLICS. I've managed to process the images and get a bit creative with it...
I've just upgraded my kit from Canon 70d to Olympus OM1, so watch this space for the latest images
I did my first trip to see the Luke Jerram Gaia installation at Lichfield Cathedral....my collection is complete, both moon and earth done
Some new images uploaded from a quick trip to Birmingham the other week
Last night I trialled a new lecture, 'Obtaining Distinctions', with Gateway CC. Always a pleasure to visit them, we had some fun interaction and the lecture seemed to run smoothly. I think Gary was inspired to pick up his AFIAP journey again and another member was interested in starting to enter salons...so for me, that's a positive result. 'Last night )Thursday 4th May) at Gateway Camera Club we were privileged to listen and indeed take part in Kylie's new talk, Obtaining Distinctions'. The interaction between our members and Kylie was very upbeat and threw up a few surprises! For anyone thinking about, or even on their journey in obtaining distinctions and/or letters after their name, this is the talk for you. Kylie does a deep dive, but not making it too baffling, insight into the various accreditations and how to plan your journey. We always look forward to Kylie's talks and she is always welcomed with a big virtual hug from Gateway!' If you'd like to book the lecture please contact me
Had the first Re-Imagine Yourself group photo walk. Chris attended and we had a nice gentle stroll down the side of Blackroot pool, he'd never been in that part of the park before. We got some nice shots and had some laughs along the way,
