1) What it is NOT:
I am not offering any kind of professional / semi-professional support or therapy for people.
2)What it IS:
A group to enjoy photography with people that may be facing similar issues to you, who can understand and be caring.
Photography can help with mental health by getting you close to nature, being sociable at your pace, be creative, and helps take your mind off the things that my be causing you stress (mindfulness)
About me:
My name is Kylie-ann Martin and I'm founding Re-Imagine Yourself because of my own experience with photography. In 2006 I became ill with ME/Fibro and debilitating panic attacks. I lost my career and friends and became a prisoner within four walls. My mental health was declining from frustration and anger about my situation. I discovered something called The 365 Project which Mum encouraged me to do, so after a number of years, I picked up my camera again. I ran out of things to photograph in the house and with a number of followers I was keen not to disappoint, so I stepped out of the house and life began again. (There were other things I was applying such as pacing and cbt)
Where am I now??? - well I still have to be careful what I do and balance my activities with rest...but I have my own small business and I pursued my photography, earned my distinctions and I am now a camera club judge and lecturer......
Why am I founding Re-Imagine Yourself ??? - I simply managed to find something that helped me refocus, get close to nature and still my mind. Sometimes I go out with others and sometimes I go out alone but it is great! It doesn't matter if you use your phone, a compact, a bridge, dslr or mirrorless....it's still thinking and being in that moment and capturing it. In editing you can be as pure or as creative as you want to be and have fun! I just want to give back to the community and help others add another tool to their bag of coping methods.
Kylie
