"Kylie gave NCPS a lively talk on all her experiences from early days to up to date photography. Given her limitations on travel her images are all within 10 miles of home, but cover a wide variety of subject matter. The results showed that you don't have to go to the ends of the earth to get distinction level images."

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed listening to your talk and seeing your images.

"Kylie’s talk via zoom on her photographic journey ... so far was really interesting and reminded many of us of the reasons why we take photographs in the first place. Her photographs were excellent, showing her development as a photographer - but it was these in combination with her personality, comments and explanations that made her presentation so successful.
Kylie shared her good knowledge of photographic techniques and illustrated this with some inspirational images, but it was her anecdote of some feedback from a judge that still stays with me. She noted on the success of one of her early competition photographs that the judge had said it might not have been technically the best but was an image that stuck in his mind and would be the one that he would recall when driving home. A reminder to all of us from Kylie that images should try to have that memorable quality if we want them to do well in competitions etc."

"Hi Kylie,
I just wanted to send you a quick note to say thank you very much for your presetnation last night. It was both enjoyable and enlightening to see how much you have achieved in a relatively short space of time, especially given the hurdles you have had to overcome given your health issues.
I know that our members enjoyed viewing your images and I am sure you have inspired many of us to try out some new ideas in our post production techniques.
Personally, while I use both Lightroom and Photoshop to perform basic editing of my images, I haven't really explored the various artistic filters, but will certainly be giving it a go to see what I can produce, as well as exploring other plugins that may be available to create something a little different......
Best Regards
David"
"Dear Kylie
Thank you for your interesting and informative talk about your journey in photography.
It was great to see how your photography developed over the years and the wide range of genres you have taken. I hope you journey will inspire our members to enter exhibitions and further develop their photography.
On a personal note I was inspired by the re-enactment images you share and have made a metal note to look out for them in my local area once lockdown is finally lifted".....Sue Hughes (Club Secretary)

sorry to bother you again , but I just wanted to send you a further thank you for introducing me to the Fractalius software. Having downloaded it, I am loving playing around with the various settings to see what it can do to some old images. In case you're interested I have attached one of my first efforts.
Thanks Again and all the best.

i did reply to say he should never think he was bothering me and that i liked the owl image, the fractilius had worked really well on it.

"Last night 19/11 Enfield Camera Club were the recipients of a very inspiring evening by Kylie-ann Martin where she didn’t just tell the story of her photography and progress she also shared the inspiration and tricks of the trade which made her images leap out of the screen and tell the stories. Kylie-Ann is also not afraid to point out where she feels her images can be improved so she highlights that even in excellent work there is still room for improvement. If your club is looking for a different view or take on this hobby Kylie-Ann’s talk is thoroughly recommended
Thank you Kylie-Ann for giving up your evening last night to visit us virtually"

"Hi Kylie
Just a quick note of appreciation for the very inspirational talk you gave to Enfield Camera Club last night, telling your story with both the highlights and low points rang many bells. The quality of your images and telling the story behind them added interest as you covered so many genres of photography rather than stay within just one discipline. What made it more inspiring is that you have been restricted by circumstances to a much more restricted area than many photographers.
I have never really tried HDR as most of the images that I have seen seem to me to be just over processed and unnatural whilst you showed how subtle changes and applications can bring out the true natural features especially on reenactors and I will be trying that myself next year, I also liked how you took the twirling a step beyond and used it as a background both with natural images and also with the Jaguar.
In messages I have received everyone was enthralled with the presentation and thoroughly enjoyed it and I and the club would recommend your talk to any other club looking for a guest speaker who covers a different topic to the normal club talks, although Covid has restricted the clubs normal range of speakers the advent of zoom has allowed us to bring in high quality guests such as yourself from outside our normal catchment area.
There were a few thought provoking comments as well about Judges and I know how difficult it can be as I have been a judge for some Photocrowd contests as well as earlier this year being invited to be a member of a judging panel for a Travel Companies Photographic competition (at times I feel that Judges should be sponsored by the Specsavers as they don’t always see the same picture as everyone else) but your comments were fair and I feel that with your open-mindedness peoples images will be judged without any trace of bias (either conscious or unconscious) .
I have also noted down some of the places for future club visits
Once again thank you for giving up your time in your busy schedule to visit us virtually and if I could please ask for your address so we can send you a small token of our gratitude.
Best wishes
Stay Safe

"Thank you very much for the excellent presentation to Mid Sussex CC on Monday evening. We thoroughly enjoyed hearing about your photographic journey, the difficulties you have faced (and overcome) and the successes you have had in International Exhibitions.
We have a Members-only Facebook group. I have never seen as many images posted within 24 hours of a presentation, using techniques mentioned in that presentation, as have been posted since Monday. You can probably guess which bits of software my members have used, but you clearly inspired many of them to try something new and they have enjoyed it! Within the many Thank You messages in Chat, one said "So many different techniques. Plenty to think about." Another said "I need a few weeks off to try some new techniques out." Both of those individuals have now posted images using some of the techniques you described.
Thank you and all best wishes for your continuing development and success.

"Thank you very much for last night's zoom presentation for the Mid Sussex Camera Club which I thoroughly enjoyed.
My favourite image was the two women in costume on the stairs which conveyed a wonderful atmosphere of a long gone age.
I grew up in Walsall leaving when I was 15 and spent many happy days in Sutton Park so I felt very nostalgic to think of being back there.
Birmingham was the first city I used to visit and I still love it and have visited several times over the last few years. I remember the canals back in the 1960's when they were dark and pretty well derelict in the city centre. What a difference now although they must be quiet again during the lockdown.
Thank you again for your great presentation.
Best wishes, Michael"

"Kylie,
John Simpson has asked me to contact you to express our gratitude, as a Club, for your highly interesting and enjoyable presentation, where you took us on ‘ A Journey’’, your Journey of small beginnings, to huge successes, in a very diverse genres of photography, where you were not afraid to try anything new, to bolster your creative talents. All this achieved in a relatively short period of time. It therefore showed us that if you are adventurous and bold you can achieve great acculades.
Both in our Private and Business affairs, the COVID 19 Pandemic has presented us all with many challenges and disruptions and to our Club affairs this has been no exception.
Despite having to bring our diary for physical meetings to a close, in the early part of the year, as a Club, we were determined to look at ways to offer our members, an alternative program and thanks to a number of key participants, that being presenters, such as yourself, Judges and fellow members of the Club, offering their own presentations, our ‘’Virtual meetings’’ via Zoom, have proved to be both highly successful, in both content and implementation, with very few technical issues to mention.
Equally, as a Club, the format of ‘’Virtual Meetings’’, via Zoom, were very much a new experience for those concerned and we were very grateful for all those that embraced this new format, especially the guest presenters and Judges, who not only provided us with excellent presentations and constructive critique but were only please to share this new ‘’Virtual Experience’’ and the learning curve associated with it.
So as a Club we would like to thank you for all your involvement, and we hope you enjoyed your ‘’Virtual Experience’’ as much as we enjoyed yours.
It only leaves us to say, as a Club, we would be delighted to welcome you back in the future.
Regards

"Hi Kyilie, I really enjoyed your presentation to Woodford & Wanstead Photographic Society last Monday night. I was especially interested in the Droste style images which I understood you produced using Photoshop and Pixelbender. Is that right?
But I can't download the pixel bender plugin to PhotoshopCC. I found a similar Apple App called PhotoSpiralysis but it doesn't seem to do the same effect.
Could you talk me through your workflow please and explain how to obtain the plugin?
Thanks very much, Dave Tachauer."

Hi, thanks again for last Thursday, our club PR secretary has created a piece for our newsletter that included your presentation, here is his write-up.
"Last Thursday night brought our 20th formal online meeting when we were delighted to welcome Kylie-ann Martin EFIAP BPE2 LDPS from the West Midlands. As her designations report, Kylie-ann is a prolific exhibiter worldwide on the International Salon of Photography circuit so we were honoured that she deliver our final formal evening before our August break. Titled, My Journey In Photography - So Far, we were treated to a wonderfully diverse range of subjects. A floodlit Church in the evening, the graceful actions of a softly lit swan and a multi coloured train opened the programme. A Black & White winter scene which featured a stream wending its way through a snow covered landscape and into a woodland was followed by an upward view towards the treetops then another very clever composition using the trees to frame the star filled night sky. The abstract nature of photographs taken both inside and outside of the new Birmingham City Library were inspiring, particularly to those of us who occasionally pass through the city, and it was also good to be reminded of the architecture of other parts of the city. Moving images too from the National Memorial Arboretum conveying the spirit and humanity of that monument. Turning to Studio Portraiture, original compositions of a Ballerina were notable and it was no surprise that these included widely exhibited photographs which had achieved an R.P.S. ribbon. Kylie-ann’s control of composition, tone and exposure needs no assistance but add the complexities offered by post processing and another world appears. Timewarp, featuring a spiralling clock face was just one example of a P.S.A. Medal winning image while Apple Frankenstein would cause even Mary Shelley to look over her shoulder. Leaves against a swirling vortex were followed by a period costumed figure in the company of Daleks ( real ones obviously ). Naturally Kylie-ann was then inspired to use an antique clock face to interpret time travel. A little closer to home, gritty and compelling Black & White images taken around the Grand Union Canal as it passed under the motorway system of the West Midlands had a distinctive presence too. All in all we greatly enjoyed seeing such a wide ranging collection of expertly photographed images accompanied by much information about their construction. Our sincere thanks go to Kylie-ann, and best wishes to her Dad too."

Such a wide variety of subjects and how she achieved them. What was good to know that almost all of her work is captured within a 10 mile radius of where she lives! just goes to prove that you don't need to travel the world to produce great work, Thank you Kylie for such a great show. Thanks for giving us a great evening. I always think good images only go part of the way, learning about the artist makes a complete picture. As a judge and club member I'm sure you'll be familiar with the comment 'what does this picture tell me about the photographer?' Last night we had images and insights, the perfect combination.
