"Kylie
I would just like to thank you on behalf of the club for the judging tonight. I hope you enjoyed it too.
I think you were very fair and consistent throughout the marking.
Thank you again.

What was nice on the night during the 'Vote of Thanks' they made reference to my judging of the prints. They were especially happy that I'd discussed the paper qualiy, effec, print quality and mounting styles. The last couple of judges had not done this.
Review on their own website:
"November 24th
It was indeed a pleasure to have Kylie Martin from North Birmingham with us over Zoom this evening to judge the entries for our second appraisal of the year. It was pleasing to see that Kylie had noticed the quality of prints being submitted.
I felt Kylie was fair with her scores and that her feedback was well observed. Mind you some may say I was biased and have a different opinion.
As always may I congratulate the top scorers, well done :)"

"Hi Kylie,
Just to say a big thank you for a tremendous job dealing with 102 images in two hours. Not only did you manage to time it very well but also we thought your comments were perceptive and constructive. As someone who lived in Burton upon Trent up until two years ago I know Birmingham well, I particularly like the area around the Custard Factory and the markets, rich hunting grounds for photographers. You must try and come up to Leeds some time and I will show you some of the wonderful parts of our city which has a similar industrial heritage to Birmingham and some amazing architecture.
Thanks again for your hard work, and may your career in photography grow further.

First I'd like to thank you for a very good evening of our society's image appraisal. I think your comments were fair and helpful on every single entry. It was refreshing to hear...breaking the rules - ok, and not the old...not on the third, sharp where it needs to be... You packed a lot of sound advice into the competition."

"Morning Kylie
Just wanted to drop a note and thank-you again for a fantastic evenings judging.
The feedback was very good after your first ‘visit’ to the club in August 2020, hence the rebooking for this season. However, I have to say I felt the standard was even higher this year. Great feedback that gave clear advice of how things could be tweaked and your though process through the image.
Apologies that the Nature round didn't come through. The links are sent by the system and so they isnt a ’sent’ email I can check. Still, you handled it brilliantly and I don't think it in any way detracted from the night, so thank-you for that.
Once again many thanks and I hope you have a great rest of the season.

"Deay Kylie,
A quick note to thank you for judging for us last night. I have had several messages from members saying how much they enjoyed it, and how useful they found it. So thank you – very much appreciated, and a lot of useful detail points for all of us to take to heart. I know Zoom doesn’t work too well with prints ( !), but it has been useful for DPIs because with physical judging, one tends to meet a particular style, because the judges are local. The wider view is, I think, a great bonus.
Thank you too for helping us out with the software. I’m not sure what went wrong there, because Paul is pretty handy with computers. I know Zoom can slow software down, but I didn’t know that it could hang up like that. We are wiser and will have to have a sort out.
Many thanks, and very best regards,
M"

"Thank you for judging our latest competition. The images presented to you were varied in genera and quality and you handled them with skill and compassion with positive feedback and quality advice on how they could be improved or possibly re presented. The quality of the comments and constructive criticism allowed the author to understand why their image didn't score in the higher bracket or the top 3 positions.
The general consensus of all the members of Padiham and district photographic society was that you would be welcomed back to the club again and even would be a contender to judge the Annual competition for us in the future."

"Good morning Kylie
Thank you so much for being our judge on Monday evening.
We have all had tough times over the last 18 months, and , as you probably noticed, I try to make these events enjoyable as it helps to cheer the members up.
You probably also noticed the friendly rivalry between the men and ladies. Our club is quite unusual in that of the 44 members, 19 of those are ladies. Many of the ladies are very good photographers, but some of them lack confidence, which is where I enlist the help of the more experienced photographers to assist.
As I see all the photos before I send them to you, I did notice that some didn't really fall in line with "The eyes have it" . Some with one eye and some with no eyes, which you picked up.
The feedback I had from members was very positive.
You engaged well with the members and your comments were very well received.
I am pleased to let you know that we would gladly welcome you back to Corley & Fillongley Photographic Club.
Very best wishes
John
PS I have commended you on the zoom register".

Just to say thank you for a superb job you did last night of judging such a diverse and varying range of subjects, always hard when it is an open competition. Your comments were concise, constructive and absolutely spot on. I think, hearing the comments made on the night you are well aware of how well received you were.
And also, you mention that you have only been judging in the period of these Zoom meetings, so a year at most, your knowledge was that of a seasoned pro that has been on the circuit for years!
All the best for future Zoom judging and also live judging when it happens.

"Many thanks to Kylie-ann Martin for judging the final round tonight in this our 63rd season of the Interclub Colour Group competition.
Kylie brings a freshness to judging and I can throughly recommend her if you are looking for a judge.
The competition was very, very close and in the overall score for the whole season came to one point difference!
So congratulations go to Pudsey Camera club on winning the competition on the night with a whopping 95 points and
congratulations to Huddersfield Photo Imaging Club who retain the trophy for the second year running."

"Hi Kylie
I have had a lot of chatter from the club members today. As always you can't please all the people all of the time.
I think what everyone enjoyed was the fact that you noticed stuff that nobody else did and once you saw it, well it was so obvious to us all.
I have lifted a few quotes from our Facebook page.
"It is amazing how much “judge bait” we leave in without realizing it!"
"I do not do it quite so much now but when I do, I kick myself for not spotting it and then wonder how the hell I missed it."
"I thought the judge showed her experience, and I had to agree with her comments on my images."
"I was annoyed that I didn't spot the foot. I will have to look harder."
"I think I need to produce an image and keep going back to it a week later to reassess it"
Thank you for all your hard work and visiting St Austell Camera Club.
If you ever venture to Cornwall let me know and I will let you know some great places to visit.
Take care
Best wishes

"Kylie judged two of Swindon Photographic Society’s lockdown print competitions; the prints were couriered to her in advance and then digital versions shown on the night to the members (using Zoom) while Kylie made her comments on the actual prints. The critique was well paced and very clearly presented with every image getting positive comments, plus for most there was something that would help to improve it. I have to say I agreed with almost all of Kylie’s comments (nobody ever agrees 100%) and as a judge myself I found that quite refreshing.
We had a good night so thank you Kylie, and I would strongly recommend Kylie to other clubs, we’ll definitely have her back next year if we are still using Zoom.

I just wanted to say thank you for your excellent judging tonight. Several people have said how much they enjoyed your comments and your constructive criticism of the images. One person said that you were the best judge we have had for this competition for a long time, so well done 👏.
You even made it look as though you were considering the scores as you went along, even though we already knew the results, but you did make me sweat a little on some of them as I thought you might have changed your mind on some of them which would have altered the placings. Dear Kylie,
Very many thanks for visiting the Virtual Folkestone Camera Club last night. We would probably have never met you if it hadn't been for the Covid situation, and as we discussed last night, one does have to appreciate the positive things to have come out of it. Straight away it seemed like we were talking to an old friend, your outgoing personality ensured a lovely relaxed evening. Your comments and critique were relevant and constructive and advise, on how improvements could be made, very helpful. Thank you for the time you gave to assessing and scoring our images prior to the evening. I am not quite sure what happened towards the end, when you lost the ability to reply to us, but your smile was big, so I think you enjoyed visiting us virtually? Exiting a Zoom meeting is one of the things I don’t like, very abrupt, no lingering and finishing conversations, just instantly, ‘Gone’ but Thank you for coming.
On behalf of our Chairman, myself, President, Committee and Members of FCC very many thanks for coming to Judge for us. All good wishes for your future on the Judge’s circuit, maybe we will see you again one day?

Thank you very much for judging our competition last night. We thoroughly enjoyed your critiques and the members were impressed with your comments and marks. You definitely made some members very pleased, including me with my 9.5 for the ballerina!
Congratulations on your success that you heard about during the judging. I hope you were made to feel welcome last night and although it was cold judging you enjoyed the experience? We were appreciative of your kind comments about how close you felt the standard of the images were.
I wish you the very best of luck with your future judging. I have ever confidence that you will be very successful and clubs will enjoy their experience with your judging.
I hope that we may call upon you again and that we might at some point meet in person.
Best wishes, stay safe and a big thank you again,
Adrian "

"Hi Kylie
I thought you did a great job...You gave some great feedback and I did makes notes about what you said about my photos. I think everyone appreciated the effort you put into commenting constructively on members photos. I am sure that you will do an equally good job in our Battle with the Forest of Dean Camera Club.
Best wishes
Kevin"
Kevin put a post on the club's facebook page to find out what members thought of the night,
"I would be interested in getting some feedback of what you thought of Kylie as a judge on Tuesday. I personally thought she was good and gave some really useful feedback - what do you think?"
the responses are below:
Martin Cooper
Yes I agree Kevin. She was thorough, not opinionated and didn't let personal tastes get in the way of her assessments. And she brought a bit of fun to the proceedings.
Janet Lancaster
Yes I agree, I thought she was very good.
David Houston
I thought she was very good. Even better if this is her first season as a judge.
Jay Hallsworth
I thought she did a great job, her style was relaxed and informal... she very much gave her own opinion, without letting her personal preferences get in the way. A breath of fresh air I thought
Mandy Sysum
I thought she was good, would be glad to have her back again
John Bridgen
I thought she was a good judge as well very fair...
Martin Cooper
...Bear in mind that this is Kylie's first season as a judge. I think she has got off to a really sound start and, with a bit more experience, will be up there with the best.

"I have just listened to a good portion of the recording and would like to give five out of five stars to her. Think she is just brilliant. Thought she marked extremely fairly and pointed out things that if taken on board should definitely improve our photography.
One of the best judges I have heard in a long time.
Cheers
June"
